Shabby chic style is now one of the hottest trends in decor and with reason. It is versatile, easy and inexpensive. Shabby Chic - the rich, inviting, convenient, time-worn style created by one of the greatest American designers, Rachel Ashwell, is a lifestyle that reflects the grace and simplicity of another time. It is a study in the difference between fresh and traditional, casual and elegant simple motif, simple and ornate, ruffled and tidy. Popularized in Britain after World War II, the shabby chic look - otherwise known as the "home country look" has become one the issues most important decoration of the late twentieth century. Money was so tight that people were frugal with their upholstery and accessories were worn and sofas, curtains and faded painting became became scratched. During this period, people their houses furnished with pieces inherited and many items were made by hand that money was scarce. Words shabby chic and have been grouped together in the 1980s by designer Rachel Ashwell. She turned the phrase in Shabby Chic brand and now runs a successful business empire Marketing shabby chic design.
Most of shabby chic decor is based on a theme of white or beige. Soft colors such as pastel pink, pale blue, the muted greens and faded tones and neutral gray, add an accent color.
